View Full Version : Worst TV show you enjoyed (video clips welcome)

Everybody has that "bad" TV show everybody criticized, but you watched it anyway. I am embarrassed by my "current' one, and the "old" one, not so much.

My current embarrassment--I watched, and enjoyed, "Hart of Dixie." Dumb, stupid, idiotic show, and I kick myself for enjoying it. I have only seen it on my phone on my DroidTV app, but I watched it the first time after seeing previews and saying that was stupid. Then watched the 2nd show and said "I can't believe I watched it again. But I wonder what will happen with..." and ended up watching a 3rd show.

Never gets realistic, and not unrealistic enough to be good for the imagination (I enjoy both--this one fails in the middle).

But I watch it. Have my phone set to download the latest episode when it comes available.

The TV show that was bad, that I enjoyed, and I'm not embarrased to admit it?

Gloom, despair and agony on me.

Hee Haw.

The BSG reboot is one of my all-time favorite shows, but I also liked the campy original series from the late 70s:

I make no apologies for Hee-Haw. First off it was in the days when having 3 channels was good, 4 or 5 a positive boon. It was silly but funny and not dull. I liked it.

Really liked the original BSG, even more than the new one despite being so very campy. I think being campy kept it lighter and by this time in my life I like lighter fare. Had the new BSG run against the other one I'd have probably preferred the new one.

One of my fav shows that was short lived, was the John Laroquette Show, where he played a recovering alcoholic bus station manager. It was very dark, despite obvious attempts to make it lighter the 2nd season, and I really liked the dark humor of it all. Not sure if it was "bad TV" but it sure didn't last long.

Don't know if it qualifies, but I loved SOAP. Not sure if it qualifies as "bad tv" or not, probably not, but it was definitely goofy.

I should have 100 of these. I have notoriously bad taste in TV and movies. I like absurd movies, stuff so dumb it's brilliant, dark humor, and generally things most people give you weird looks for liking. Just can't think of too many.

Oh, I liked Space:1999, and anther bad one I watched religiously as a kid and still like is Land of the Lost. I watched one episode a year or so ago and MAN were those effects bad. Worse than I remember and they weren't good then.

You guys list some, if they're truly awful no doubt it'll ring a bell and I'll put them on my list.

Are you kidding? As a 12 year old I had this intro timed down perfectly. Waited for 55 seconds in, went to get something to eat and hoped for a beach setting for the episode. Man, I loved Cheryl Ladd.

I liked Hee-Haw, too, as well as many of the other shows listed so far. And your point about 3 channels* can't be overstated. Choices were so limited, which was good in a way because we all had a common frame of reference. Now with hundreds of channels, Netflix, etc., we don't have that. But it did mean we were at the mercy of the 3 networks, too.

*--We had a hard time getting 3 channels where I grew up. The ABC and NBC stations were close and came in fine, but the CBS station was in Charleston WV, which was farther away and in the mountains. It came in very snowy--you really had to like a show to put up with the picture quality. Mrs. BEvans had the same problem growing up in western Kentucky, but with the ABC affiliate over there.

Transformers. Really whichever series is airing at the time, currently it's Transformers: Prime. It's mindless fun, which makes sense because it's a kids' show anyway, but darn if it doesn't bring back memories of the glorified toy commercials of my youth. I generally watch it on Netflix while I'm exercising.

The current incarnation is similar to the Michael Bay movies (even produced by the guys who wrote the first 2) but without Bay himself it's a lot less convoluted and stupid.

There was some pretty bad television in the '70's when I was in my formative years. I remember discussing this one every day in the 6th grade with one of my buddies . . . .

Doc! You are cheating! You have to mention a "bad" show that you enjoyed!

Anyway, poor "Buffy" had terrible "real life" problems, didn't she?

Gilligan's Island (Mary Anne and Ginger) Charlie's Angles (the Angels) Laugh In ( Goldie Hawn) Baywatch (da Babes) Hee Haw (Minnie Pearl) The Flip Wilson Show (Moms Mabley) Star Trek (Uhura and all those alien babes) see a trend here?:p

I think the worst show that I like the most was/is The Red Green Show

Always liked Sonny, never liked Cher. He made her a star, she treated him like he was nothing, and not just in the self deprecating comedy bits he did.

I couldn't stand it but I still watched it.

Ditto. I cannot remember a show I have disliked more that I watched.

I'm guessing NOTHING else was on at that time for me to watch, and it was not enough time to go outside and play, or something. I wanted to slap Buffy and Jody silly, and Sissy was no better. Mr. French was a goob, and the Dad was as boring as watching paint dry.

An awful, awful show. And I can remember their names and faces like it was yesterday. Curse that show.

But Mr French rules (played by Sebastion Cabet)

I'm surprise there is no mention of "the love boat" and "fantasy island".

One aside, is it just me or did anybody else note the subliminsl phalic symbol in the Love Boat introduction? I noted this years ago and laugh every time I see it.

Darrell, the man on the show wasn't their Dad, he was "Uncle Bill".

I'm very proud of myself for remembering that. lol.

Darrell, Petticoat Junction was good, but Green Acres was better. I also loved the old Beverly Hillbillies. I'm not embarrassed to admit I watched those, but I am this:

I actually started to put Petticoat Junction and Beverly Hillbillies, but I thought those were not as "bad" of TV shows as Green Acres. I too, enjoyed those corny shows. I think the critics butchered them (I'm almost positive they cut "Hillbillies" to pieces), but the general public loved them, and I was "general public."

Green Acres, I though, was just bad. But Mr. Haney entertained me. So did Oliver Douglas and Mrs. Douglas.

I never could sit through a whole episode of Family Affair. Absolutely one of the most horrid shows ever. Mr. French seemed kinda cool but it was like Samuel Beckett met a bad French Renaissance drama writer. Insipid plots that made Vladimir and Estragon look like go-getters.

Not to mention the sheer hilarity of Gabe Kaplan and Billy Crystal competing in athletic events.
