next

No, no. You just said you loved her. There's some difference between lovin' and likin'. When I married Jennie's mother, I-I didn't love her - I liked her... I liked her a lot. I liked Martha for at least three years after we were married and then one day it just dawned on me I loved her. I still do... still do. You see, Sam, when you love a woman without likin' her, the night can be long and cold, and contempt comes up with the sun.

Rio Bravo, one of my favorites. John Wayne and Dean Martin.

Where the hell does it say that you've got a right to kick down doors, torture suspects, deny medical attention and legal counsel? Where have you been? Does Escobedo ring a bell? Miranda? I mean, you must have heard of the Fourth Amendment. What I'm saying is that man had rights.

I've just always been bad about watching television or even reading books that are for fun, for entertainment. I do it so casually I'm not sure it registers that well. But in fairness, it has been many years since I saw the movie you mentioned. I can forget a lot in that time period.

CitizenBBN

I don't watch much, and watch far less than I did growing up, but it seems to just stick there in my head. The important stuff doesn't seem to stick nearly as well, lol.

With movies it's a strength for these things that I tend to watch ones I like over and over, so it gets pretty stuck in there. Honestly with the movie in question I wouldn't remember most of the lines now, but that one stuck with me for some reason. Mostly the contrast between the characters.

Arthur... I just watched it again about a week ago

She was a comely young woman and not without prospects. Therefore it was heartbreaking to her mother that she would enter into a marriage with a known thief and murderer...a man of notoriously vicious and intemperate disposition.

I kind of cheated, I was just watching this movie... it's from the prologue.

It was Saturday Night Fever. Lot of great lines in that movie, really obnoxious stuff that gets missed b/c of the strutting and dancing and music.

this one is GOOOOODDDDD Morning Vietnam!

This should be easy, but it is absolutely one of my very favorite movie quotes (don't think I've used it yet but may have):

"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass, and I'm all out of bubblegum."

It really did have some cool lines. One of these days I'll go back and watch it again.

Other thing that was cool about that movie. Apparently John Travolta is just a so-so dancer. But that's really him dancing. It's not magic, but apparently extremely good editing. It was a combination of 14 separate takes meshed into one flawlessly to make him appear much better than he really is.

I had no idea. Very interesting.

I have a black and white art photo of him to sell. Found the photographer, it's of him in warmups in a studio, more the kind of thing he wore in the sequel. I wonder now if he was doing that just for the shoot or trying to work on things for the sequel. Age wise it puts him in that range.

Maybe my very favorite movie, so I'm going to jump back in quick.

The Quiet Man, John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara. That line is by Ward Bond playing the priest. I love that line, very subtle in the movie, would be easy to miss.

Did you happen to watch it Saturday night? TCM was running Wayne movies, I caught it then. Great timing, needed a happy film, and I love that one.

C'mon Chuck, you ought to know old Cliff was watching it. Matter of fact I have it DVR'd; they don't make them like that and the Searchers anymore...

I just lucked out and came across it, got almost all of it. I actually have it on VCR, one of the few I bought back in the day.

Yes, that was a great palate cleanser considering all the ugliness happening Saturday. She Wore A Yellow Ribbon, The Man Who Shot Liberty Vallance, The Quiet Man, The Searchers. Absolute treasures.

Man, I figured someone would get that one. The film flopped at the box office, but still thought someone else here would have the same poor taste I have in film.

it's from "Chronicles of Riddick" with Vin Diesel. If you're curious, he did then kill the guy with his teacup.

This one will be a gimmie, but we need to have it on the list:

"What we have here, is a failure to communicate."

I worried about that and the bubblegum one they'd been done already. This is one of those that is so well known it's part of the American lexicon.

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this ashtray... And this paddle game. - The ashtray and the paddle game and that's all I need... And this remote control. - The ashtray, the paddle game, and the remote control, and that's all I need... And these matches. - The ashtray, and these matches, and the remote control, and the paddle ball... And this lamp. - The ashtray, this paddle game, and the remote control, and the lamp, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one...
