Gator season opened this weekend in Miss. 5 guys hunted Gators up in the Yazoo water system and hooked a rather large one. 11'11/5", 660#, 30# short of the state record. Used a front loader to weigh it at a recycle place, it was huge hanging there from that loader. They road down the road with the head over the cab of their pickkup and the tail over the tailgate, cn you imagine the looks of people as they drove by.

Good size gator there. He'd been eating good, hadn't he?

The lighting in that pic makes the gator hide look gray. If that is the case, that one has a lot of age on it.

And yes that is a biggun

big ole Gator, killed in really a swampy river type area, not a lake. I would imagine he is an old one.

Two gators like that would make Boogy a pair of alligator shoes. :p

Reminds me of that summer I spent working as a gator wrestler. He looks a little familiar, kinda like the runt of the litter of the ones we wrestled. Most of them were 25' or more but even then we had to shoot them up with steroids to make it an interesting fight. :)

I wouldn't get any closer to hunt those things than required by a Barrett .50 cal sniper rifle. lol.

I hate to tell everyone how they hunt them, with rods, reels and big hooks.

Well, an Arkansas Gator recently caught makes the one pictured above skinny by comparison.

Weighing in at 1380 lbs (http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/09/20/record-gator-caught-in-southwest-arkansas/?intcmp=features)

They killed another big one this past week, 680#, but didn't give the length but it looked very long. This is the first time these areas have been opened for hunting, in the past it was the lake I live near has been all you could take gators from. So there are some old big gators in those swamps, sloughs, and lakes in the state.

That Arkansas one you linked above would tend to disagree....but they're all big to me.

Dan, that one is massive. The location where they caught is farther north then I though that a gator would go.

Mississippi record gator landed. 727 lbs

Dan you beat me to it. That gator broke the record that had been established a few hours earlier. A team had just taken a 723# gator and a few hours after this one came in. Those are huge. Also new record for a female gator was taken at around 230#. With more of the state now open vs just Barnett Reservoir, those old gators are now being harvested

Did y'all see where Joker Phillips tweeted a picture of it and said something like, "this Gator tried to escape Mississippi to come play WR for the Joker."

Actually thought that one was funny.

When the gator hit the Florida state line and realized joker would be his position coach he turned around and came home

Now it makes sense that he had committed to play for Joker. Read today that the Fish and Wildlife department ruled the death a suicide.

He was just trying to get more distance between him and the gator, added extra stuff to the url.

I don't blame him, those things are big enough to attack boats.

If it is FOX news is going to look pretty foolish

ETA: ABC confirms (http://www.iflscience.com/plants-and-animals/hunters-find-15-foot-gator-which-has-been-eating-farmers-cattle) that it is real
