They want to regulate the tax preparation industry (http://finance.yahoo.com/news/irs-rides-1884-dead-horse-law-defense-tax-211608311--sector.html)

My comment to them is bug out and let the marketplace do the regulating. If the tax preparer does not do their job properly, they go out of business.

Typical Obama. Anything worth having done should be regulated by a federal bureaucrat who has never done the job.

99% of tax returns are simple. Anybody with basic training can fill them out. There is no need for a competency test; just a waste of time.

If someone doesn't want to fill out a short form return, or even a long form return with basic employment status, and want someone sitting in a booth at Walmart to do it, let them do it. Yeah, they'll screw something up occasionally. But so will the individuals. There are already tax return preparer penalties, including criminal sanctions. That's enough to police the industry. JMO.
