Nanny Bloomberg and his ilk need to keep their ever growing noses out of our lives.

I just dont' know how you can tell a business they can't sell a certain size soft drink. What about beer, is it limited also? How about double 1/4 pounders, are they outlawed? Big Macs? I think they have probably 3 times the calories of a big drink since most of it is ice. Fried chicken, are they limiting how many pieces you can buy at one time? How about double size candy bars in convenience stores...no that won't work it would limit how much the muslims could make in their stores.

Remember how we were discussing how you can't have socialist fascism? This is typical liberal fascism. Bloomberg is a liberal and like all liberals he knows what is best for you and will use the power of the State to protect you from yourself.

Far too many conservatives do the same thing fwiw, but at least they haven't become so absurd as to regulate what you eat and drink. Pretty ridiculous at times, but not bat crap crazy.

Someone explain to me how this is any different from the Puritanical villages of that region as many as 400 years ago? Do you get a big Scarlett "M" if you sneak in and get a large drink at McD's?

In the good news department, Bloomberg is a huge figure in the anti-gun community, and now that he's shown beyond all doubt that he's a fascist looney maybe people will realize they shouldn't listen to him on serious issues either.

Three words: triple bacon ator (Wendy's) You get between me and my TB-ator and we got major issues.

It's not uncommon for us as a family to get an extra large drink and "split" it especially when traveling but even if not, why is it anybody else's business?

So you know what we should do? DON'T GO TO NEW YORK CITY! If you don't go there and don't spend any money there, then you hurt their wallets, not yours. There are a thousand other places I can think of that I'd rather visit than New York City.
You know, I just detest the idea that I can't be trusted to make my own damn decisions about my own life. The very idea that they can tell me how much soda I choose to imbibe just rubs me the wrong way. Who the hell do these people think they are to tell me or you or anyone else that I can only have so much soda? Is there a damn soda shortage somewhere in this world that we don't know about? And when did it become New York City's mission to protect me, you, and everyone else from ourselves? And from the dangers of soda?
I have a few ideas about how to stop this liberal nonsense and infringements upon our liberties............. all I need is some rope and a tree..............

I have to object to hanging these lunatics.

There are too many and it would take too much time. Let's just shoot them where they stand.

Suncat, I have no words to capture my utter sense of repulsion at these kinds of things. Something that has zero impact on the rights or pursuit of happiness of others still regulated just b/c they think they know what's best for you and you can't be trusted to make those decisions.

The only person who can take that attitude with me, and they don't have the force of law, is the one who gave birth to me. She can take that approach, but I can reject it at age 18.

I could rant for an hour and not say anything coherent on this topic. It's just so very sad.

I bet your kidneys work fine LOL

I saw a man this am on Fox News who runs a company of food trucks that must be a big business in NYC. He talked about how much it is going to impact his business in sales, profit, bottom line, he is going to have change the way he arranges cup, lids, how he sells and eventually will probably lay off people. Also will they then buy two 16 oz drinks versus 1 32oz, then that doubles the litter on the streets which means more trash, more time to pick it all up, fuller land fills. And he wanted to know how many 'soda' police will be hired to watch what he does.

Some New Yorkers have also ridiculed the rule as a gross government intrusion.

It's like this part is an afterthought to everyone. Either I am completely out of step with the American vision or they are, and I'm beginning to think it's me.

They're debating whether this is a big contributor to obesity, how many times people consume them, etc. Why? Smoking can be regulated in public places b/c it has an exogenous effect on others. If you want to be fat the only exogenous effect is that we've mandated public health care, and if that now justifies regulating people's food consumption to prevent obesity we've done a lot more than just mess up health care. Mandatory gym time anyone?

This is the problem with government, one the Founders saw so well and one which many have forgotten. Here's how government erodes your liberty: they come to you with something "free" to improve your life. Then, now that you've accepted the free thing, they come back and say "look, you're getting this and since that's funded by everyone's taxes we now get to regulate how you do x y and z b/c that now impacts others."

Seat belt laws (for other than children), helmet laws, those things started down the path, the logical conclusion of which is banning foods that are deemed too unhealthy (in the long run, not poisonous) and mandatory exercise periods. FWIW I argued against the Ky seat belt law on this basis, asking what they would regulate in the name of public health (justified by government costs of health care) next, and listed foods and such among others. People thought I was engaging in reductio ad absurdum. Apparently not.

So "the government has no authority to tell me what to eat and drink or how much" is 3rd or 4th on the list of complaints? Wow.

Now, there is a group fighting it, and it seems to be #1 on their list, with 250,000 signatures. They give me hope that the Experiment isn't dead, it's just in a battle to the death.

Oh, and yesterday I printed out a pic of Bloomberg and used it as a plate as I ate potato chips, which I don't eat often b/c I'm trying to eat better but did as special tribute to Adolph Bloomberg and his all goose stepping orchestra.

I'm pretty sure I'm Neo and he's Smith. Wonder if I can get the hot chick at the end of the film.

Doc, it's the people of New York that keep electing idiots like Bloomberg into office. So, in my mind, they're as much to blame as he is because they put him there. Hence, they get NONE of my money. What little I have to begin with, which keeps getting less & less every day because of the guy who resides in the WH right now. But back on point........NY gets "zip" from me! Never going there, and the few times I passed through there I didn't lose anything of value that would make me want to go back. The store owners have done this to themselves, so let them suffer the consequences of their follies.

They have ruined school lunches, more kids are going hungry with the resulting portion sizes and limits.
