Great reference bobcat, and so very true of the nature of Man, not just in the West.

IMO the two men who founded the two most fraudulent men's college basketball programs. UCLA built on the "don't ask don't tell" philosophy of Wooden's approach to the boosters, and UNC committing academic fraud on a scale that dwarfs in longevity and extent anything mustered by other schools in their history.

Many people need heroes and demons, and in the college sports world UCLA and UNC are designated heroes no matter how many bodies they bury in their crawl space, and Kentucky is a demon no matter how little wrong or how much good it may ever do.

If I've learned one thing observing politics and the like in my life it's that image is everything, and the reality of a situation is often one of the least important factors in any story. As bobcat's quote implies, if you can get enough people to repeat a thing often enough you have created the "truth", no matter how big a lie it may be. A sad failure of the species I hope we can evolve from in centuries to come, but I have little hope.
