Louisville tour guides

Friend going there to visit. Wants recommendations. Open to distillery tours. Ten year old daughter stuff too.

Restaurants, sites, anything? Already gave her the Krauss house shrine on Beechwood Ave.

If they go to the Louisville Slugger Museum there is also the Bats game, if they are in town O'Shea's right on Main Street, or the Irish Rover on Frankfort Avenue. Something about seeing a AAA ballgame put me in the mood for Irish. That is of course after eating my way through the game while there. Corned Beef n' Rumbledethumps at O'Shea's if they go.

As mentioned above, there is the Louisville Slugger Museum. Right now they have an exhibit of Baseball fields and players made of Legos. You can have a bat personalized from a mini-bat size up to a regulation baseball bat. I don't know if a ten year old girl would like it or not, but me and my 12 year old son have been several times.

Right across the street is The Louisville Science Center, which has all kinds of things for ANY kid to do and see.

The Louisville Zoo is good and has a small water park, but when it's as hot as it is right now, the animals are scarce. The train is back at the zoo now also. Has a great Herpaquarium, but I'm a snake fanatic, so that may not be for everybody.

As Pappy mentioned, downtown there is O'Sheas. It's right beside the Yum Center where UL plays basketball, which also has a pretty cool little UL themed museum inside. O'Sheas is of course Irish food with great beer. I've known the O'Shea family for about 30 years...played softball with 2 of the sons. Good people, with 2 locations. The other is a more traditional bar/nightclub in the Highlands. Across the street from the downtown O'Sheas is Impellizerris Pizza. Awesome pizza but a little pricey.

There is also 4th Street Live downtown. A mix of restaurants and clubs. Louisville Bard Rock Cafe is there.

Also in the Highlands, are a few beer places of interest. The Holy Grale, Lousville Beer Store, and Sergio's. Massive selection of beers, both tap and bottle, along with decent bar foods.

One of the hidden treasures about Louisville are the Picnics. It's one of the things I miss about Louisville. The picnics, St. James Art Fair and the old Butchertown Oktoberfest at the Oertel's Brewery. Those were some great times.

Joe's Crab Shack is a chain, but it's right on the river so it makes for a nice dinner option, especially if you're already down there for a Bats game or touring the museums.

Love going to Bats' games and the Slugger Museum is pretty cool though I'm not sure it would be a 10 year old girl's favorite. I personally think Louisville's Science Museum is pretty lame except for the IMAX there. The Frazier Museum just down Main Street is fascinating to me on the other hand.

Louisville does have a very nice zoo, with one of the best gorilla habitats in the country.
